Tree Tops Adventure Towers at Pennywell Farm

Pennywell needed a magnet attraction: something visually stunning that would naturally draw visitors out of the central hub and into underutilised areas of the park.
The proposed location was a 20-year-old Go-Kart track. While the area had history, it was overgrown with bushes and trees that blocked what are arguably the most spectacular views in the park, stretching up to Dartmoor and across to Torbay.

In the Autumn of 2023, the award-winning Pennywell Farm approached Outdoor Play People with a specific logistical challenge. Despite being a premier destination, the site’s central Farm Yard and café areas often became heavily congested during peak times.
Pennywell needed a magnet attraction: something visually stunning that would naturally draw visitors out of the central hub and into underutilised areas of the park.

Collaboration & Design
Our team, led by Cathy, met with Seb Murray at Pennywell to walk the site. The goal was to fulfill a comprehensive wish list while respecting the existing landscape.
Instead of a complete demolition, Cathy proposed using the existing mounds and track layout to create an accessible, multi-level adventure zone. By clearing the overgrowth, we did not just add play equipment; we unlocked the view for visitors to enjoy while their children played.
High-Impact Tree Tops Towers
After several design iterations to ensure the perfect fit for the farm’s long-term vision, the final plan was set.
Despite facing one of the wettest winters on record and the inevitable hurdles of large-scale site work, our team remained committed to the deadline. The Tree Tops Adventure Towers were completed and fully operational in time for the Summer Holiday rush.
• 6-Metre High Adventure Towers: These were designed for maximum visual impact from the main yard.
• Triple Tube Slides: Three vibrant, high-energy slides face the central hub to entice families over.
• Visitor Comfort: The area was integrated with new seating and a Food & Beverage unit, allowing parents to relax and soak in the Dartmoor views.
• Operational Relief: By moving the energy of the park to this new zone, congestion in the café and Farm Yard was significantly reduced.

We are so thrilled with the new Adventure play area! It is proving a real hit with our visitors.
