Charlie and the team at Finkley Down wanted to fully revamp the area. Their brief was clear: they needed a larger variety of buildings to expand the role play experience, and they required a material that offered minimal maintenance. This led them to explore our durable HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) range.
The Story Behind the Project
Revitalising a Popular Attraction
Finkley Down Farm, a premier farm park near Basingstoke, already had a beloved Mini Drivers zone. However, as the 2020 season approached, the original timber buildings were looking tired and required significant upkeep.
Charlie and the team at Finkley Down wanted to fully revamp the area. Their brief was clear: they needed a larger variety of buildings to expand the role play experience, and they required a material that offered minimal maintenance. This led them to explore our durable HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) range.
Growing the Farm Village
We sat down to brainstorm how we could expand on our existing Tractor Depot and Tractor Wash designs. We wanted to move beyond just driving and look at the whole life of a farm.
We thought about the daily tasks a farmer performs: shopping for supplies, caring for livestock, and running a café. By harvesting these ideas, we proposed a comprehensive Mini Farmers village that would fertilise the imaginations of young visitors.
A Durable, High-Play-Value Village
We designed and manufactured four bespoke HDPE role play buildings. HDPE was the perfect choice here because it is UV stable, won't rot or delaminate, and requires nothing more than a simple wipe down to keep it looking new.
The New Mini Farmers Area Includes:
• Finkley Down Drive-Thru Shop & Café: This interactive building allows children to role play shopping, cooking, and serving. It encourages communication and social management skills as they take orders and manage their own business.
• The Animal Barn: Every farmer knows that livestock need care. This building teaches children about the responsibility of feeding and looking after farm animals in a fun, safe environment.
• The Tractor Depot & Wash: Building on the original core of the area, these updated units allow mini drivers to service their vehicles after a long day in the fields.

Scope to Grow
The result is a vibrant, colourful, and incredibly sturdy Mini Drivers zone. The move to HDPE has provided Finkley Down Farm with a fit and forget solution that looks fantastic season after season, regardless of the weather.
The area now offers plenty of scope for future growth, providing a dedicated space where budding farmers can play, learn, and explore for years to come.
