Maximising Space at St Kew Primary School
Contact UsSt Kew Primary School was looking for a way to increase the physical play opportunities for their students without encroaching on their primary recreational areas. The team identified a narrow strip of grass located beside the school car park that was previously unused and considered wasted space.
The goal was to install a series of challenges that would test the children's balance, co-ordination, and strength, all while fitting within the specific constraints of a long, thin site.
The Story Behind the Project
Turning Wasted Space into Play
St Kew Primary School was looking for a way to increase the physical play opportunities for their students without encroaching on their primary recreational areas. The team identified a narrow strip of grass located beside the school car park that was previously unused and considered wasted space.
The goal was to install a series of challenges that would test the children's balance, co-ordination, and strength, all while fitting within the specific constraints of a long, thin site.
The Don't Touch the Ground Challenge
Our design team proposed a linear agility trail. By arranging the equipment in a sequence, we created a natural course that encourages children to traverse from one end to the other.
This type of layout is highly effective for school environments because it promotes turn-taking and continuous movement. To increase the play value, the trail was designed as a don't touch the ground challenge, which keeps children focused and engaged as they navigate the various obstacles.
A Comprehensive Agility Course
We manufactured and installed a high-quality timber trail that provides a diverse range of physical movements.
The St Kew Agility Trail Includes:
The installation was carried out with a focus on durability and safety, ensuring the apparatus can withstand the high-frequency use of a busy primary school playground.
• Ramp Net Climber: For building upper body strength and confidence with heights.
• Drop Rope Traverse: A classic challenge that tests grip strength and core stability.
• Stepping Logs and Stilts: To improve balance and foot-eye co-ordination.
• Balance Beam: A fundamental piece of equipment for developing poise and concentration.

Superb Quality and Daily Engagement
The result is a vibrant new play zone that the children use every single day. By being creative with the site layout, St Kew Primary School has gained a significant new facility from a previously overlooked part of their grounds.
I was impressed with the quality of your service from beginning to end: from my first contact with you, through the design and discussion stage, the whole project was managed professionally and in a timely fashion. The quality of the apparatus and the installation itself is superb and the children love it.
